Incumbent Michael Armitage will serve another two-year term as mayor of Milan handily beating opponent, Dutch Nie, who ran as a team member with candidates seeking council seats.
Armitage said, “I’m very happy and comfortable knowing the city is going in the right direction and excited to serve another two years.”
Team members, Christian Thompson and Mary Kerkes, and incumbent Martha Churchill were elected to council.
Robert Chidester was elected to the Milan Public Library board and Darlene Middleton, write-in candidate.
The Milan City charter tax amendment passed by a wide margin. The amendment requires the city to spend at least 1 mil on roads should the council impose a maximum millage allowed under state law.
In regard to the passage, Armitage said, “ I believe the residents have a clear message that funding the roads is important. That investment will continue as a result of this amendment.”
At a gathering of supporters at the Milan American Legion Post 268, Nie said, he planned to congratulate Armitage and encouraged supporters to continue moving Milan forward with volunteering and community support.
